Bruin Strong: A Standout Year of Athletic and Academic Excellence at Kellogg Community College

The 2024-25 academic year will be one to remember for Kellogg Community College Athletics as Bruin student-athletes shined both in competition and in the classroom. With standout performances, record-breaking achievements, and a continued commitment to academic excellence, KCC Student-Athletes and Coaches have earned some much-deserved recognition. 

Athletic Highlights

  • Women's Bowling – Brought home the NJCAA Doubles National Championship
    • Sophomore Brooklyn Page and Freshman Bella Thomas teamed up and won the NJCAA Women's Doubles National Championship.  The first National Championship in KCC Bowling program history. 
  • Four Programs win NJCAA Regional Championships:
    • Baseball
    • Men's Cross-County
    • Women's Cross-County
    • Women's Soccer
  • Four programs finished Top-10 in the country
    • Baseball – 5th
    • Men's Cross Country – 5th
    • Women's Cross Country – 7th
    • Women's Bowling – 7th

Baseball

  • Record: 40-15 overall
  • Over the past two seasons: 84-27 overall, 41-9 MCCAA West
  • Captured back-to-back Region XII Championships (2024 & 2025)
  • Earned back-to-back NJCAA World Series appearances, finishing 5th in the nation - earned the program's 10th all-time NJCAA World Series appearance.
  • Notes: Head Coach Eric Laskovy was name NJCAA Region XII Coach of the Year for the 8th time in his career and for the second consecutive season. Freshman outfielder Jacob Kucharczyk was named NJCAA All-American, the 20th All-American in program history

Cross Country

  • Men: Won 2024 NJCAA Region XII DII Championship. Finished 5th at the NJCAA DIII National Championship. Julian Borst led the way with a 6th place finish and earned All-American honors.
  • Women: Won 2024 NJCAA Region XII DII Championship. Took 7th place as a team at the NJCAA DIII National Championship.

Women's Soccer

  • Record: 10-5-2 overall
  • Postseason: Made back-to-back-to-back Region XII Tournament appearances (2022, 2023, 2024) and claimed back-to-back Region XII Championships for the first time in program history (2023 & 2024). Also made history by hosting the Great Lakes District Championship for the first time ever.
  • Notes: Sophomore Team Captain Sophia Saunders became the first NJCAA All American in women's soccer program history. Head Coach Levi Butcher was named NJCAA Region XII Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.  

Bowling

  • Women: Finished 7th at the NJCAA Bowling Championships, tying the best finish in program history.
  • Individual Success: Isabella Thomas and Brooklyn Page made history by becoming the first NJCAA Women's Doubles National Champions in program history. The men were represented at Nationals by Zhander Lord and Cameron McKee. 

Volleyball

  • Record: 23-10 overall.
  • Postseason: Advanced to the Region XII Great Lakes District Tournament Semifinals, marking back-to-back regional appearances for the program.
  • Notes: The team surpassed the 20-win mark for the first time since the 2017 season. 

Men's Basketball

  • The Bruins sophomore class posted a two-year record of 34-18, marking the winningest stretch for the program in over a decade.

Women's Basketball

  • The Bruins sophomore class posted a two-year record of 31-21 record over the past two seasons.  This includes an MCCAA West Division Championship in 2023-24.

Academic Excellence

Bruin student-athletes didn't just win on the field—they excelled in the classroom:

  • 8 NJCAA Academic All-America First Team Honorees
  • 10 NJCAA Academic All-America Second Team Honorees
  • 13 NJCAA Academic All-America Third Team Honorees
  • 50 Academic All-MCCAA Honorees
  • 61 Academic All-Conference Honorees

As we close the book on the 2024-25-year, the Bruins are proud of what was accomplished and look forward to continued success in 2025-26.
