Reece and Natalia - National Qualifiers

Bruins Running Fast this Cross Country Season

Kellogg Community College's cross country teams have been working hard all season long. This weekend finished up their final race before the upcoming MCCAA and Region XII Championships on Oct. 29th in Grand Rapids. So far this season, Coach Shaw and his crew have been putting in the time and it has been paying off.

Two Bruins have met the time requirements to qualify for the NJCAA DII Cross Country National Championship in November. Reece Ratliff qualified with at time of 28:08 back in September at the Firebrid Invite. Since then, he's shaved more than a minute off his time from this weekend. Natalia Egnatuk punched her ticket the week after with a time of 22:06 at the Oakland CC Invite. They'll both be attending the Championship in Westfield, Massachusetts on Nov. 5th.

This weekend at the Jayhawk Invite in Muskegon, every runner posted either a season record(SR) or a personal record(PR).

Women's Results: Halaina Peevers cut 2 & 1/2 minutes off her PR with an outstanding race. Her hard work in practice is showing massive results. Shayla Mejia finally went under that pesky 30-minute mark! She was relentless on the course.

Men's Results: Reece Ratliff once again led the way for the Bruins. His PR catapulted him in to the second fastest time in KCC history, just 7 seconds off the all-time KCC record. Brayden Zambroni also had his season record today. He was focused and ran hungry. His last mile was fast and impressive. Carter Spring had his 4th PR in 5 races. He ran a steady race and really tore up the last mile to get another PR. Curtis Falbe was the MVP as his PR Saturday cut off an astounding 4 and 1/2 minutes off his previous best time. Brendan Wedding gets better every time out. His PR time cut 2 & 1/2 minutes off his previous race.

Bruins have a little under two weeks until the first race of the post-season this year. They're working hard and look to snag another Region XII Championship!
