Bruin Soccer Drops Two

Bruin Soccer Drops Two

The Kellogg Community College women's soccer team hosted Schoolcraft College on Saturday, September 30 where they battled, but fell. They then traveled to St. Clair County on Wednesday, October 4 where they fell again.

Schoolcraft | L, 1-2

The Bruins had two great back-to-back chances about 10 minutes in that the Schoolcraft keeper made saves to keep it at 0-0. The Ocelots eventually got on the board on a nice shot from outside the box after we cleared their corner kick attempt right into a dangerous area. They took the 1-0 lead into the half.

KCC leveled the score through a penalty kick earned by Bella Smith and finished by the team's leading scorer, Aubrey Phenicie. Unfortunately, though the game went back and forth, we weren't able to hold on for the draw. In the 80th minute, Schoolcraft found the net again on a nice cross finished off at the back post. The Bruins created a few good opportunities in an effort to level the score, but another big save by the Ocelots' keeper preserved the 2-1 win for them.

Head Coach Levi Butcher said, "A special shout out to our Captain, Lydia Schamanek, who somehow played 85 minutes on a dodgy ankle. Another kudos to goalkeeper Airanna Griecci, who played the full 90 today, making 5 saves, after a pretty gruesome finger injury in Wednesday's match at Muskegon. We are looking forward to the possibility of facing Schoolcraft again come Region XII playoff time in late October."

St. Clair County | L, 1-2

The Bruins held SC4 scoreless for most of the first half before the Skippers scored. Going into the second half, the Bruins looked to tie it up. Well into the second, SC4 scored again. The Bruins' only goal today came later in the game from Lydia Schamaek off a pass from Allison Dietzel. While the Bruins took many shots, they unfortunately could not even the score with SC4.

Head Coach Levi Butcher said, "We didn't finish our chances today, and SC4 did. That was the story of the game. We had opportunities and didn't find the back of the net in the second half. We'll regroup and be back in action Sunday against Delta College."

Up next, the DII No. 20 ranked Bruins host DIII No. 1 ranked Delta College on Sunday, October 8th. Kick will be at 2:00 pm in Battle Creek, Michigan.
