Bruins Grab Big Win at Muskegon

The Kellogg Community College women's soccer team traveled to Muskegon Community College on Wednesday, September 27 where they picked up a decisive 2-0 win.

Muskegon | W, 2-0

Emilian Braman scored the Bruins first goal from a corner kick by Annabelle Smith, flicked on by Aubrey Phenicie in the 31st minute. The Jayhawks would have no answer heading into the half. The Bruins went out and score quickly in the second half, only 13 seconds in as Allison Dietzel drove a ball to Lucy Lampart. For the remainder of the game, the Bruins were forced to play strong defense, and came away with the win!

Head Coach Levi Butcher said, "Today was a huge win for our team. We entered the match without our Captain, Lydia Schamanek. She does so much for us and we knew we'd have to adjust. Co-Captain Rayna Richardson slid into Lydia's role and did an excellent job. Co-Captain Bella Smith led us with 5 shots on goal. Though she didn't score one today, she was a catalyst for a lot of what we did in attack."

"Goalkeeper Airanna Griecci made a couple massive saves to preserve the clean sheet. Dietzel was an absolute monster today, tackling or blocking everything, and everyone Muskegon threw at her," said Butcher. He continued, "I was really proud of how we handled some adversity and the effort every player put forth. That is a theme for this team, and they routinely show up on match day. We now turn our focus toward a big Region XII match against Schoolcraft at home on Saturday."

Up next, the No. 19 ranked Bruins road trip to No. 7 Schoolcraft College on Wednesday, September 20. Kick will be at 3:00 pm in Livonia, Michigan.
