Soccer Nabs a Win and Draw vs. Jackson

The Kellogg Community College women's soccer team traveled to Jackson College on Tuesday, September 12 where they picked up a 3-1 win. The Bruins hosted the Jets on Friday, September 15 where they ended in a 2-2 draw.

Jackson College | W, 3-1

Lucy Lampart got the game started with a dribble-through goal in the 18th minute. Aubrey Phenicie added to the score minutes later on a pass through fron Rayna Richardson and Allison Dietzel. Jackson countered with a goal in the 35th minute and the teams headed into halftime with the Bruins in the lead, 2-1. In the 64th minute, Lydia Schamanaek but the game to bed with a shout outside the 18 giving the Bruins the 3-1 win.

Head Coach Levi Butcher said, "Our ladies dug deep tonight against a very good Jackson side. We came out flat, and didn't make great decisions early on, but we're still able to find the net twice in the first half." Butcher continued, "We stressed the importance of playing with intensity and urgency in the second half, and our team answered the bell. I'm really proud of how this team responds when challenged, and it was an important win for us."

Jackson College | T, 2-2

Allison Dietzel had the leadoff goal for the Bruins off a corner kick that volleyed to her from Sophia Saunders in minute 19. From there, Annabelle Smith put the Bruins up 2-0 only minutes later and that scoreline carried into the half. The Bruins held on for most of the second, but the Jets attack looked very different. Jackson scored twice late in the game to tie up and earn the draw.

Coach Butcher said, "Today was a tough regional match-up against a very solid Jackson team. We carried a 2-0 lead into the break on a couple very nice goals. We weathered the storm for quite awhile, but just weren't able to manufacture enough in attack to push Jackson out of our end." Butcher continued, "We'll regroup and head into Sunday's match-up with Owens looking to rebound and play some better soccer than we showed today."

Up next, the Bruins round out their 3-match week with a road trip to Owens Community College in Perrysbug, Ohio on Sunday, Septmeber 17. Kick will be at Noon.
