Soccer Dominates Home Opener

The Kellogg Community College women's soccer team hosted Grand Rapids Community College for their home opener on August 23. Like the temperature on the day the Bruins came out hot early in the game and never let up, dominating GRCC 7-1.

Aubrey Phenicie had the leadoff goal for the second time this year, off an assist from Emilia Braman in minute 13. Following closely behind her in the 15th minute was Lucy Lampart on a pass from Lydia Schamanek. Lampart came through unassisted at 41 minutes, followed by Annabelle Smith's goal from Schamanek in minute 44. After the half, Smith scored on a free kick at 53 minutes. Lampart then completed the hattrick (and more) with the final two goals of the game, off a pass from Smith at 64 minutes and unassisted in the 82nd.

Coach Butcher said, "Anytime you get 4 goals from one player, it seems redundant to say that she had a good game, but Lucy Lampart was a force for us today. Our whole possession game opened things up for her with the balls we were playing, but she was clinical with her chances, and it showed on the scoreboard." Butcher continued, "Berlynn Conley was largely responsible for shutting down the Raiders' best attacking threat. She put in a hard-working and intelligent shift at the back today in some adverse conditions."

Bruins look to continue on this momentum this weekend, as they travel to Ancilla College for a match on Saturday, August 26 at 1:00pm.
