Soccer Ties Season Opener

Soccer Ties Season Opener

The Kellogg Community College women's soccer team opener their season on August 19 vs. Lake Michigan College. The Bruins traveled to Stevensville to take on the Redhawks and the contest ended in a draw.

Lake Michigan College | T, 2-2

Aubrey Phenicie came our roaring and scored in the 8th minute of the contest off a through ball from Lydia Schamanek. LMC scored two before the half, and forced the Bruins to make a change after halftime. The Bruins made their change, and keeper Arianna Griecci was able to save both attempts on goal. In the 52nd minute, Annabelle Smith scored and head Coach, Levi Butcher described it as, "Bella Smith got on the end of a ball from Berlynn Conley near the half line, flicked it past a defender, and was off to the races for our second goal. It was a bit of individual brilliance to beat 2 defenders and the keeper to level things up."

Though the team leveled the game, they couldn't capitalize to take a lead and the game ultimately ended in a tie. Coach Butcher noted, "Our midfield put in an absolute shift today, and the back line was very organized and stout in the second half, especially. Overall, we can head into the week on a positive note after outshooting LMC by more than double."
