Bruins Split at Skippers Holiday Classic

The KCC women's basketball team split their weekend at the SC4 Skippers Holiday Classic. Friday afternoon they faced off against a strong Mid Michigan College team, losing with a final of 79-31. Saturday morning, your Bruins bounced back with a big win over Alpena Community college, 49-44.

Leading the way for the Bruins against Mid Michigan were three freshman all scoring 6 points. Freshman guard Haley Hinds (Quincy/Quincy) dropped 6 points and notching 7 rebounds. Freshman center Madison Pettengill (Hastings/Hastings) scored 6 points for the Bruins, while grabbing 5 boards. Freshman guard Corrin Replogle (Middleville/Thornapple Kellogg) rounded out high scorers, notching 6 points and 4 rebounds.

"Today we played a team that was well disciplined and well coached. We're looking to learn from the loss and work toward being that kind of team ourselves." Said Coach Konkle of Friday's game vs. Mid Michigan.

Leading the Bruins in the Alpena game was freshman forward Shayla Ardis (Battle Creek/Battle Creek Central) who had 11 points and 3 rebounds. Freshman center Madison Pettengill (Hastings/Hastings) had 7 points and 9 rebounds, while freshman guard Corrin Replogle (Middleville/Thornapple Kellogg) also had 7 points, and grabbed 4 rebounds. Freshmen Sara Bruns (Kalamazoo/Portage Northern), Mary Whitmore (Dowling/Delton Kellogg), and Haley Hinds (Quincy/Quincy) all contributed 6 points each.

Coach Konkle said after Saturday's game, "Today we played well against a solid Alpena team! The resiliency from this team today was great to see. We're looking to build off wins like this and continue on our path of getting better."

Your Bruins are 3-4-0 overall. Next up, Bruins host Macomb Community College on Dec. 7th at 5:30 p.m. at the Miller Building Gym. Admission is always free!
