Men's Basketball off to Hot 4-0 Start

Men's Basketball off to Hot 4-0 Start

The KCC Men's Basketball team began competition earlier this month under the direction of Head Coach Steve Proefrock. This will be Coach Proefrock's second season at the helm, and he is excited for the things this group looks to accomplish this year. The team is off to a hot 4-0 to start the 2023-24 season.

This year the Bruins have a nice mix of returners, transfers, and freshman. Among the returners are Jalen Jackson (Warren/Lake Shore) who gained some valuable experience at point guard last year and is playing well. Other returners for the Bruins are sophomore guard Dahntae Bailey (Mendon/Mendon) and redshirt freshman Kolson Lycos (Webberville/Webberville). New transfer students should play a key role in the Bruin success as well. Isaiah Moore (Three Rivers/Three Rivers) is a multidimensional 6'5' player and KeAndre Nelson (Newport, KY/Newport) is a sharp shooting transfer guard from Ancilla College.

There are a lot of freshman on the roster who coach believes can really play well, including guard Jakeem Cole (Chicago, IL/Perspectives), guard KeMarion Tucker (Battle Creek/BC Central), an athletic guard Brandon Moore (Lims/Lima Senior), and a powerful guard Mikial Miller (Indianapolis, IN/Cardinal Ritter).  Incoming front line players are Kobe Watson (Anderson, IN/Liberty Christian), Connor McCleary (Battle Creek/Pennfield), and Jaden Smiley (Redford/Clarenceville) who all should give the Bruins quality depth upfront. Rounding our the incoming freshmann class are Jamir Carnell (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis), Jakyren Woods (Chicago, IL/Perspectives), and Kieaunta Whittaker (Battle Creek/BC Central).

When asked about the season, Coach Proefrock said, "In my second full year as Kellogg's Head Men's basketball coach I'm excited about the upcoming season. Recruiting went well this past year and we're bringing in a talented group of student athletes and I'm pleased with our depth at every position." He continued, "We have a plethora of three level scorers and multidimensional players on our roster. This year we are athletic enough to play more full court defense and we will be a better fast break team than we were last year. Our team chemistry is very good as we seem to be a team that is all about winning through sacrifice, hard work, and respect for their teammates."

So far, the Bruins have shown their skill - winning every game this season by 17 points or more, up to a 49 point spread. Leading the Bruins in the early season scoring are Ke'Marion Tucker, KeAndre Nelson, and Jakeem Cole who are all averaging 11+ points per game. Tucker is averaging 32 points for every 40 minutes played. Kobe Watson leads the Bruins in rebounds, averaging 6 per game, and Jamir Carnell, Brandon Moore, KeAndre Nelson, Isaiah Moore are all averaging 5+ per game. Mikial Miller has been dishing out an average of 3 assists per game and both Jackson and B. Moore are distributing 2+ on average.
