Bruins Stay Hot and Clinch Conference Champs

The No. 6 Kellogg Community College Baseball has extended their hot streak to a 21 wins in a row! The Bruins solidified first place in the MCCAA Western Conference with their dominant wins over No. 4 Lansing Community College on Thursday. The Bruins took game one 8-1 and game two 8-2 to secure themselves as Western Conference Champions and the #1 seed for the NJCAA Region XII Tournament! 

Head Coach Eric Laskovy said, "Big time effort clinching the conference championship on our home field, with tremendous support from our campus and community. Our guys played with grit and determination accomplishing something that many didn't think was possible."

Leading the Bruins in the big games Thursday were pitchers Gavin Beuter (6-1), Sean Knorr (3-1), and Jacob Spencer (3-0). Beuter went 6.1 innings with only 5 hits, 1 run and 0 earned runs while striking out 8 for the win in game one. Knorr threw 6.0 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs and 0 earned runs while striking out 7 for the win in game two. Spencer closed both games pitching a total of 1.2 innings with 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks and striking out 2. 

Leading the offense for the Bruins were Brett Stanley and Diego Pena. Stanley went 5-7 on the day with a homerun and a double, 5 RBI and 4 runs, while Pena was 3-6 with a homerun, 3 RBI and 2 runs. 

 

Bruins are back in action this weekend to finish their series with the Stars. After that, they'll spend the week preparing to host the 8th seed in the NJCAA Region XII Tournament next Thursday, May 11th on MCCU Field at C.O. Brown Stadium. Go Bruins!
